Anglers must respect the park byelaws, but we have very few rules to inconvenience responsible anglers. Obviously guns, fires, and vehicles are not allowed, but otherwise we just ask anglers to use their sense.
Listed below are a few of the questions we get asked on a regular basis.

  1. PIKE FISHING SEASON: Our pike fishing season opens on September 1st and closes on March 31st. Pike fishing is not allowed outside of this period.
  2. LINE BREAKING STRAIN: Pike anglers are expected to use line with a minimum of 12lb breaking strain.
  3. BARBED HOOKS: In principle we have no objection to modern barbed hooks. However for obvious reasons treble hooks must be barbless.
  4. SPINNING: Spinning is only allowed during the pike fishing season.
  5. BAIT BANS: We have no bait bans as such. However it is against the law for predator anglers to bring freshwater live or deadbaits with them. Anybody found bringing freshwater fish baits with them will be reported to the authorities. (We consider eel sections to be a sea deadbait).
Coarse and carp anglers can use whatever baits or groundbaits they want, provided that they are being sensible with them. Please make sure that particle baits are properly prepared.
  6. NIGHT FISHING: We have no problem with night fishing.
  7. WHAT TIME CAN I START: When you get there! We are open all hours.
  8. RESTRICTED  AREAS: Anglers must not fish from the bridge or in the conservation pool.
  9. KEEPNETS:  Keepnets are allowed, with a minimum size limit of 10 feet. Carp or Pike must not be put into keepnets.
  10. NUMBER OF RODS: Again it’s a matter of using your sense. We have no objection to anglers using two or more rods, providing its not spoiling another anglers enjoyment. However we reserve the right to limit the number of rods a particular angler uses should it prove necessary.
  11. RADIO’S:  A radio is permitted, providing that the anglers in the next swim can’t hear it.
  12. DOGS:  No problem provided that they are under control, don’t bother other anglers or park users, and their owners clean up after them.
  13. WIVES/HUSBANDS/GIRLFRIENDS/BOYFRIENDS/CHILDREN: Refer to item 12.
