Although there are no numbered swims the lake will comfortably accommodate over sixty anglers. As a general rule a half decent angler should be able to get a good mixed bag from anywhere around the lake during the warmer months. Its slightly different in the winter when the tench became less active, and the fish desert the shallower canal stretch to drop back into the deeper water along the cockle bank.

The following will give you a rundown of the main areas:
| A)THE INCOMING SLUICE: This area is relatively shallow but produces plenty of fish, especially after rain when the fish move in looking for worms flushed in through the sluice. A summer favourite with waggler anglers, often producing big carp and plenty of tench. Barbel favour the tree on the North side. A good area for roach in the winter, although Tom Keeble took an 18lb carp on pole gear during a recent winter match. |

B)THE COCKLE BANK: A favoured area both summer and winter. Without doubt this is the best winter roach fishing stretch on the lake, producing good bags to pole tactics. Even a freeze up doesnt stop the roach with double figure catches through holes in the ice! Winter carp and quivertip anglers take their best catches casting close to the island, whilst pole anglers sometimes take excellent winter carp hauls at close range. Stan Howard took a two hundred pound plus pole caught haul in March 2000! In the summer this is a reliable area with plenty of fish to all methods. It is also a favourite surface fishing area with carp anglers. Last summer one carp angler fishing bread took 29 fish to 19lb off the top in one day. On hot days the high bank behind gives a superb vantage point to watch the carp from. This can be mind blowing with literally hundreds of carp on the surface at the same time. |
| C)THE BEAR PIT SWIM: Named after Micks huge black Alsatian Bear who died last year. This swim comfortably accommodates two or three anglers. For some reason the right hand side often out fishes the left hand side. |

D)THE CANAL STRETCH: A brilliant spring and summer stretch, but not so good when the water temperature drops in the winter. This is a favourite area with pole and waggler anglers. Anglers fishing summer evening sessions with heavy waggler tackle find this a very productive area for carp and tench. |
| E)THE OUTGOING SLUICE: Carp often shoal together at the outgoing sluice, offering spectacular sport for waggler anglers. A favourite area for anglers who like to fish quietly by themselves away from the busier areas. |

F)THE EASTERN END OF THE
ISLAND: A real summer hotspot offering shallow water against the island, and deeper water at the mouth of the canal stretch. The swims either side of the tree are favourites with pole anglers, allowing them to present baits against the Island. Last summer Dave Hemmings broke our one day pole record with a 324lb haul taken to the left of the tree. This catch consisted of seven different species and included well over a hundred pounds of tench! |
| G)THE BIG BAY: A favoured area both summer and winter. Produces well for pole anglers, (Wayne Candy won a three hour evening match with a 65lb pole haul last summer), but a real favourite with carp and tip anglers. Sometimes produces more than twenty carp in a session to boilies. |

H)TENCH POINT: The most popular area of the lake. It is called Tench Point for good reason, with a ton up haul of tench possible in the warmer months. Add the carp, and hundred pound plus catches are relatively commonplace. Pole anglers can present their baits hard against the reeds on the Island. This produces plenty of action, but be warned that lots of big nasty tackle smashing animals frequent this area. We take no responsibility for broken pole sections! |
| I)THE LITTLE BAY: A good area that always holds fish. However too many anglers causing a disturbance does put the fish off in the Little Bay. This is the only part of the lake where the fish are sensitive to excessive angling pressure. |

J)WESTERN END OF THE
ISLAND: This is a favourite area with pole anglers during the warmer months. Its relatively shallow, but that doesnt worry the fish. The biggest catches are taken fishing against the bank of the Island under the overhanging willows. Its best known for big catches of carp, tench, and crucians although other species also show. The favoured peg is the right hand side where a long pole can be fished against the front of the Island or along the side of it. |
| K)THE INCOMING CANAL: The two railway sleeper swims on the South side are favoured areas both summer and winter. They can be very interesting swims producing a really wide variety of species to both pole and waggler tactics. For some reason this area is sometimes stacked full of fish that wont take a bait. On occasions anglers have huge numbers of fish stirring up the bottom and blowing bubbles, giving them endless line bites and foul hooked fish, but no proper bites. If this happens to you stick with it. The fish usually switch on to the bait sooner or later, and then sport can be spectacular. One angler fished the larger of these two swims on five consecutive days last summer, and took four ton up mixed catches! |
