We are of the opinion that the rules at many fisheries reflect the managements prejudice against a branch of angling that is not their particular interest. Often the rules are specifically designed to deter one group of anglers, or at least prevent them catching too many fish. Anglers are their own worst enemy in this respect, especially if they don’t catch much. Match anglers blame their failure to catch on pleasure anglers throwing in too much groundbait. Pleasure anglers blame match anglers who use bloodworm. Match and pleasure anglers join forces to blame carp anglers saying that boilies are the problem. Carp anglers blame each other!

We also believe that a long list of rules just makes life unnecessarily difficult for responsible anglers, whilst the idiots would ignore them anyway. We therefore have a different system.

We have a zero tolerance attitude to anti-social behaviour, but very few rules to inconvenience responsible anglers. Obviously guns, fires, and vehicles are not allowed, but otherwise we just ask anglers to use their sense.

Listed below are a few of the questions we get asked on a regular basis.

  1. KEEPNETS:  Keepnets are allowed, with a minimum size limit of 10 feet. Silverfish, (bream, roach, rudd, chub, etc,) must not be put into the same net as carp and tench. Barbel must not be put into keepnets under any circumstances.
  2. BAIT BANS: We have no bait bans as such. However it is against the law for predator anglers to bring freshwater live or deadbaits with them. Anybody found bringing freshwater fish baits with them will be reported to the authorities. (We consider eel sections to be a sea deadbait).
Coarse and carp anglers can use whatever baits or groundbaits they want, provided that they are being sensible with them. Obviously particles need preparing properly, but otherwise we don’t have any of the usual the boilie/  particle/ groundbait/ trout pellet prejudices.
The fact is that we’ve got plenty of fish to mop up whatever gets thrown in.   A wide variety gives the fish a balanced diet.  Just use your sense, and don’t go over the top with anything.
  3. NUMBER OF RODS: Again it’s a matter of using your sense. We have no objection to anglers using two or more rods, providing its not spoiling another anglers enjoyment. However we reserve the right to limit the number of rods a particular angler uses should it prove necessary.
  4. BARBED HOOKS: In principle we have no objection to modern barbed hooks.
  5. SPINNING: Spinning is not allowed at Gloucester Park.
  6. RADIO’S:  A radio is permitted, providing that the anglers in the next swim can’t hear it.
  7. DOGS:  No problem provided that they are under control, don’t bother other anglers or park users, and their owners clean up after them.
  8. WIVES/HUSBANDS/GIRLFRIENDS/BOYFRIENDS/CHILDREN: Refer to item 7.
